Red Hatters Travel to Silver City for Their Chocolate Fantasia Event

Saturday, February 11, 2017

Members of the New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter of the Red Hat Society in Alamogordo, New Mexico took a day trip to Silver City New Mexico to take part in their Chocolate Fantasia event. Silver City is about a three hour drive from Alamogordo and the girls had FUN visiting with each other during the trip.

Upon arriving, they immediately found a fabulous shop with tons of Red Hat related items for sale quite reasonably. Many items were gently used, but they were immediately grabbed up by several for future use.

The way the event worked, one paid $25 for a bag and a list of retailers who were involved with providing chocolate. You walked up and down the street going into each shop on the list to get their chocolate. There was also a contest as to who created the best chocolate and this was voted on by the attendees. Silver City has some very uneven sidewalks and streets so the girls got their exercise.

Lunch was enjoyed in Diana's Restaurant and although the food was slow to arrive, it was quite delicious. Evidently, they make it as it is ordered which keeps it fresh, but not good to go there starved.

All agreed that going back to Silver City would be a good day trip, especially to that particular shop with all the Red Hat merchandise for sale.

Vice Queen Donna Williams soon to be celebrating birthday number 85 looking utterly charming

Trudy Reese adroitly managed her scooter through all the ups and downs
Alice Johnston-Evans looking lovely as always
Gail Swineford is the best chauffeur anyone could ask for. Thanks so much for driving, Gail.
Evans with his bride, Alice. He has so many great stories after spending many years of his life on the oceans of the world.
Alice and Evans met us there. We had been discussing how we were ever going to find them. There were many people up and down the street. As the four of us were walking to the place to get the $25 bags for the chocolate, we walked right into Evans and Alice. Amazing! Oh, and the chocolate was to die for!

This is all I have to say for now.

Red Hatters Shop and Dine in Cloudcroft, New Mexico

Saturday, September 24, 2016

Members of the New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter in Alamogordo, New Mexico drove up the mountain to Cloudcroft to engage in our Red Hat Society official sport of shopping. We then went to The Lodge for lunch and to celebrate member Darla Shelley's birthday.

The next stop was at the lovely home of Alice and Evans in High Rolls for drinks and dessert to celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary. Many friends and neighbors were in attendance when we arrived. We had a grand time getting acquainted with everyone and enjoying the delicious array of desserts prepared by Alice and her neighbors.

While shopping in Cloudcroft, I purchased a new winter hat for my husband, Doug, and he was quite pleased with it, but it was too large. We went back to Cloudcroft the next day to exchange the hat and went to Big Daddy's Diner for their yummy posole and catfish. So, this turned out to be a Cloudcroft weekend for me.

I forgot my camera this day so I took the shots at lunch with my cellphone. Alice took most of the shots at their home and someone else took the last shot of Alice and Evans. Anyway, we managed to get it covered.

It was FUN for everyone and so nice to see the happy couple doing so well. They were featured in my play The Colors of Living Life and are such great hosts and FUN people.

This is all I have to say for now.

Red Hatters at Ruidoso Downs Race Track

Saturday, June 11, 2016

Members of New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter of the Red Hat Society from Alamogordo, New Mexico took a day trip to Ruidoso Downs to enjoy the Casino, Billy the Kid Restaurant and the Race Track on Saturday, June 11, 2016.

We liked the race track the most, primarily because the cigarette smoke was strong in the casino and no one really won anything there. After having a delicious lunch in the restaurant, we ambled over to the track and the FUN really began. I don't think anyone came out ahead, but we certainly made trips to the win window a number of times and that was fun.

Alice's husband, Evans, came with us and the waitresses wanted to know how he managed to have such a menagerie. He said, "I married Alice and they came along with her."

I forgot my camera so I took pictures with my phone which are not quite as good as they are with a regular camera.
