Red Hatter's Dine and Play Games

Monday, January 12, 2015

The New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter of the Red Hat Society dined at Pepper's Grill in Alamogordo, New Mexico on Saturday, January 10, 2015. The food was quite well prepared and the waitress, although new on the job, took great care of the group. The waitress and a helper came in after lunch with cupcakes with candles on them for each of the birthday girls, Margie, Dorothy E. and Alice and we all sang Happy Birthday. I forgot the bag with the Kazoos in it so no accompaniment this time.

They welcomed three new members; Carla H., Terry C. and Donna W.  Everyone had a great time after lunch with one group playing Farkle and another group playing Scrabble. It is so wonderful that Pepper's has back rooms where noise won't bother the other diners because Red Hatters really enjoy talking and laughing with abandon.  Indeed, all remarked about the chapter having two Donnas, two Carlas and two Dorothys and for some reason this set off more laughter and conversations.

Plans were made for future events including the Las Cruces Council of Red Hat Queens Big Birthday Bash celebrating 17 years for the Red Hat Society on April 24-25, 2015 at the Hotel Encanto. They always hostess a grand event and there are  plenty of vendors where one can engage in the official sport of the Red Hat Society, Shopping!

This is Berene's first event with the chapter. She became a Red Hatter last month. A classy lady for sure!
Left is birthday girl Margie and new chapter member, Donna W. She was our snowbird who decided to stay in Alamogordo and we are truly proud to welcome her.
Left is Carmen and beside her is Karen who is also quite new to the chapter

Looking at all these photos, I'm led to believe that I have some of the best looking Red Hatters around. I am so proud of my girls and we are following the 2015 Red Hat Society theme "Simply Fun" in everything we do. (By the way, I won the Scrabble game!)

This is all I have to say for now.

RHS New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter Gather at the Veenpere's

Saturday, October 11, 2014

Members of the New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter of the Red Hat Society gathered at the Veenpere's home for a potluck luncheon and games. Thirteen members were in attendance at this beautiful home on the local golf course in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Plans were made for upcoming events including a "Meet and Greet" at the local mall on November 8, 2014 and dinner at the Elk's Lodge on December 11, 2014. Tickets have been bought and reservations have been made for the Turquoise and Silver Tea for October 19, 2014.

There were so many salads and desserts, I couldn't keep up with it all. Our hostess, Carmen, treated us to pizza which her husband Jerry picked up for us. Thanks to Jerry for taking pictures (I will get copies later) and for the pizza delivery.

We played "Farkle" out on the beautiful patio right on the golf course and the back yard which is just stunningly alive with flowers and plants of every description. Jerry is the gardener and he must have an amazing green thumb!

Jean Courtier was the only birthday girl in attendance and we serenaded her on our kazoos and presented her with a little red hat and a card. Birthday cards were mailed to Lorraine and Esperanza.

We had a great time playing "Farkle" and there was a lot of discussion and laughter going on. Wherever there are Red Hatters, you will always hear yakking and laughter!

This is all I have to say for now.

New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter of RHS Halloween Costume Party

Saturday, October 26, 2013

New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter of the Red Hat Society held their Halloween Costume Party in the home of Rosa Rico Fernandez (Lady Rosamar) in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Costumes were colorful and imaginative, especially considering how difficult it is to come up with Red Hat colors of purple and red. Everyone brought snacks to enjoy from Waldorf Salad to Maple-Pumpkin Pie Bars, veggies with dips, chips with salsa, scrumptious brownies, nuts and cake.

Teams went out into the neighborhood with lists for a Scavenger Hunt and a time limit of 30 minutes. People were wonderfully accommodating and the only item not found was actual Crayola Crayons. We had no idea they were in such short supply. The crayons we did get were made in China! Winners were Margie Purcella (Countess of Karr Canyon), VQ Penny Pirrung (Duchess of High Rolls), and Alice Johnston. Each received a loaf of home made Pumpkin Bread baked by Queen Ladybird (Carla Kerr).

We played Farkle, a dice game that ends when someone reaches 10,000 points and the winner was Jean Courtier (Marquessa Corte Alegre). When one throws the dice and there is no one or five you have "Farkled" and must turn over  the dice. Actually, it's a bit more complicated than this, but I narrowed the game explanation to give you some idea of how it's played. We decided to use our Kazoos for "Farkle" instead of announcing it.

We had two Red Hatters celebrating October birthdays, Jean Courtier and Esperanza Duken. We serenaded them with our Kazoos and each received a large red and/or purple clip on flower for use in decorating hats. Alice Johnston was awarded the chapter mascot for the month, a Flying Purple People Eater stuffed creature featuring the song from forever and ago.

Thanks to Rosa for again for being the hostess with the mostest. Thanks to Doug for taking my picture before I left for the party. Also thanks to Rosa for taking a shot of the group with me in it.
