PCWNC Board Meeting

Thursday, March 17, 2011
It was my turn to hostess the club board meeting in my home. I made coffee, served orange juice, cantaloupe with strawberries and cinnamon buns with green icing. Our stylish President Dottie Mills came looking as lovely as any Irish Colleen in her shamrock green ensemble in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.
Dr. Brandi Buckner officially presented the award plaque to Sue Coleman as a 2011 Woman of the Year recipient since Sue was unable to attend the tea at Chandor Gardens in Weatherford, Texas.
Did someone forget and wear their house socks to the meeting? Horrors!

We had a few people missing today, but Doug, our in-house photographer took a group shot of those who managed to last through the meeting. What a wonderful group of women to work with and, believe me, we accomplish an amazing amount of good works.

This is all I have to say for now.

PCWNC Tea at Chandor Gardens

Tuesday, March 15, 2011
Mother Nature showed all her glory on Friday, March 11, 2011 when the Parker County Women's and Newcomers' Club honored members with a tea outside in Chandor Gardens in Weatherford, Texas. This was the culmination of Celebration of Women Week and the setting was perfect.
The highlight of this gathering is announcing the Woman of the Year recipient and the winner of the Marjorie Roach Award. The members vote by secret ballot for Woman of the Year and voting this year led to a tie between Sue Coleman and Carla Kerr so they gave the award to both. We were all in shock, but thankful and thrilled at being elected. Sue and Carla received plaques commemorating the event.
The PCWNC Board voted by secret ballot to give the Marjorie Roach Award to Joan Shaw, another very deserving woman. Joan received a lovely engraved crystal sculpture.
As you can see by the photos, a few hats were in view. This is certainly appropriate for a garden tea!

This is all I have to say for now.

PCWNC Celebration of Women Week Continues, Red Hat High Tea

Wednesday, March 9, 2011
We continued onward and upward with our Celebration of Women Week here in Weatherford, Texas with a dozen of us meeting at The Olive Garden for lunch. This restaurant is fairly new to Weatherford and I know Doug and I were excited to see one open here.

The food was, for the most part, delicious. I did hear some rumblings from a couple of the girls because the gnocchi soup had only one or two dumplings and one or two pieces of chicken in it. We surmised that maybe they were getting low on this particular kind of soup.

Several planned to go to a movie afterward and our waitress was taking an unusual amount of time getting our checks to us. When they were finally delivered, apparently her helper had also rung up checks and it became a quagmire of a problem. The end result is that the manager of The Olive Garden told all of us that our meal was on the house and that we could just leave. We were, to say the least, incredulous, but we all left in high spirits. See what the rest of you missed by not coming to lunch!

As area Ambassador for the National Red Hat Society, I invited a newly formed chapter from Azle, Texas to our home for high tea to celebrate their new chapter, Les Angels' Purpel'. Queen Rowdy Red is their leader and a lovely one, she is.

We all had fun in my hat room trying on hats and picking out one to wear to the tea. One lady even picked out a red boa to complete her ensemble.

First we enjoyed apricot scones with Devonshire Cream and apricot jam, which went well with our tea. The next course was asparagus spears wrapped in prosciutto laden with Boursin cheese, cucumber tea sandwiches and Kalamata Olives. Bonnet Tea Chicken Cranberry Sandwiches were a big hit. For dessert was Cornflake Macaroons, blueberry muffins and chocolate wafer cookies. Incidentally, the recipes for this tea came from my Red Hat Society Cookbook. They have a complete section just on tea time.

Of course, the tea was constantly refreshed as we laughed and talked about many things including how we became members and I gave more history on the founding of the Red Hat Society. Each member received her place card as a favor (a colorful envelope downloaded from Hatquarters, containing a tea bag). They also received their tea cup and saucer as a momento.

Thanks to my husband, Doug, for his able photography of our event.

This is all I have to say for now.

PCWNC Celebration of Women Week

Monday, March 7, 2011
We got off to a great start with over 20 of us showing up at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant for breakfast and it was delicious. Charl Roberson does a great job of chairing this group and it's always fun when so many more show up for special events like Celebration of Women Week.
I had pancakes covered with apples and sauce and bacon. I didn't pay much attention to what others were eating because I was starved since I'm used to eating earlier when I'm at home. The coffee and conversation was great too. You can probably see by the photos that everyone was having a great time.

Continuing Celebration of Women Week, we played "Mardi Gras" bingo and enjoyed a potluck luncheon at the Aledo, Texas Community Center. The decorations were all in purple, gold and green Mardi Gras colors and, thanks to Donna Caudle, everyone had beads to wear.
Alicia Pittman was in charge of this event and she had the help of a great "crewe" (If you've ever been to New Orleans, you know what a crewe is.). Bingo prizes were outstanding, food was as delicious as it always is when these ladies cook. One thing we do have in PCWNC is a group of excellent cooks and we even have our own published cookbook to prove it!

Yours truly got into the spirit of things with the wearing of a few feathers and such. We had several newcomers who appeared to enjoy themselves, hopefully well enough that they will consider joining us permanently.
This is all I have to say for now.
