Red Hatters Christmas Luncheon at Memories

Saturday, December 12, 2015

Members of the New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter of the Red Hat Society enjoyed a lovely luncheon at Memories Restaurant in Alamogordo, New Mexico on December 12, 2015 with fifteen members and two guests in attendance. Guests were Patricia from Tularosa, New Mexico and Susan Elrod (daughter of Florence) from Logan, New Mexico.

Part of the FUN was writing a collaborative poem with each verse starting with a letter from Merry Christmas. Queen Ladybird aka Carla Kerr read the finished product and it was quite amusing.

Each member and guest received a gift bag of goodies from Queen Ladybird. After dining, each attendee who had brought a gift pulled a number from a glass and each went to the large pile of gifts and chose one. There were many oohs and aahs as each unwrapped her gift.

Members played Happy Birthday on their kazoos to Dorothy E. and she received a gift to celebrate. The kazoos woke the other patrons of the restaurant and they applauded and laughed with us.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was a grand kick-off to the Christmas Season. I was behind the camera and never got around to having someone shoot pictures of me so my Darling Doug was kind enough to do so when I got home. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!

This is all I have to say for now.

Red Hatters Celebrate Queen Ladybird's Birthday

Saturday, August 8, 2015

Members of the Red Hat Society, New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter in Alamogordo, New Mexico celebrated their Queen's birthday at a luncheon in Memories Restaurant. Carla (Queen Ladybird) received several cute cards, a hanging purple hat with ribbons attached with small red hats attached to the ribbons with each member's name on them. They also gave her a beautiful purple orchid (now, to keep it alive will be the trick) and treated her to lunch. She had decreed "no gifts" but the girls just couldn't quite follow this order. Last but not least, knowing her love of birds, they gave her a lovely ceramic red hat birdhouse and a bouquet of helium filled balloons. Her birthday is actually August 10, so she plans on tying the balloons on her mailbox on Monday to keep the celebration going.

There were a total of 14 ladies in attendance and they really made a lot of noise when they played the birthday song on their kazoos. Other patrons in the restaurant got a big kick out of this. It was really great to see members who hadn't been in a while due to work and travel. The food was, as always, delicious and the desserts to die for.

Thanks so much to Berene for taking over the camera duties. Thanks to everyone for this lovely celebration. Can't wait to get together again to see what mischief we can dream up.

This is all I have to say for now.

RHS New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter Christmas Luncheon

Saturday, December 20, 2014

The Red Hat Society New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter held their annual Christmas Luncheon at Memories Restaurant in Alamogordo on Saturday, December 20, 2014. The long table looked very festive with decorations of snowmen and Red Hat snowladies as the centerpiece.

After much visiting and getting acquainted with new member Karen Townsend, they played a Christmas Trivia game of twenty questions with multiple choices. Donna Williams won with thirteen correct and received a prize for her efforts.

Jean Courtier (not in attendance as she was visiting family in Florida) and Donna Williams, both of whom very much enjoy crafting, provided gifts to each attendee. Each Red Hatter went home with a bag of goodies from Queen Ladybird (Carla).

The food was delicious and the ambiance perfect. Memories has a Victorian decor and is just a lovely place for anyone to dine. The service was excellent as well.

Our next event will be a potluck luncheon/game day at Rosa's home and we always have a great time at these outings. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!

NM Roadrunner Chapter Shopping and Luncheon

On Saturday, December 8, 2012, New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter of Red Hat Society gathered on New York Avenue for two hours of shopping before going to the other end of the avenue for lunch at Memories Restaurant.

We were in and out of several shops and we all found items we just couldn't do without. People were constantly taking pictures of us because we were wearing our new red bra hats that we made at our last get-together and they are attention getters! In Victoria gift shop, I bought a lovely tea cup and saucer to take to the International Red Hat Convention in Atlanta, Georgia in April, 2013. The theme is "Hospitalitea" and most attendees are exchanging tea cups and saucers as part of the fun. We had a great time shopping in Vintage Etcetera where I purchased an antique hat to wear to the Alamogordo Centennial Ball on December 28, 2012 taking place at the library.

We went on to Memories, a Victorian themed restaurant, where we dined on delicious soup and sandwiches. We made some plans for next year and exchanged Christmas ornaments. A new Red Hatter joined us and we all celebrated her membership by playing "Zippity Doo Dah" on our kazoos, the official musical instrument of the Red Hat Society. Again, several pictures were taken and people were amazed at our red bra hats. One said we looked like Vegas show girls!

The first two photos are of Queen Ladybird aka Carla taken by my dear husband, Doug because I am the photographer at the event.
