DPOC Scholarship Presented at Cloudcroft High School/Doug Kerr's 81st Birthday

Monday, May 8, 2017

On Monday, May 8, 2017 I was privileged to present a scholarship to graduating senior Sabina Judah at Cloudcroft, New Mexico, High School during their Awards Ceremony on behalf of the Democratic Party of Otero County (DPOC), New Mexico.

I was astounded at the number of scholarships certain students had applied for and received. Sabina received several large dollar amounts in scholarships due to her diligence in filling out the paperwork and applying for them. There were five students in particular whose names were called again and again as different organizations presented scholarships.

Congratulations to all of the winners, but especially to DPOC's winner, Sabina Judah.

My darling Doug attended this event with me because it was his 81st birthday and I had made dinner reservations at The Lodge Resort and Spa in Cloudcroft to celebrate. When we were being taken to our table, dear friend Linda Laws was there with her family and she jumped up to greet us. We also became acquainted with a couple from Wisconsin, Melinda Myers and Pete Joseph, very friendly people who were very complimentary of this area of New Mexico.

Our food was wickedly delicious, plentiful and quite filling. So much so, that we took home to-go boxes. However, we did have space for Cherries Jubilee for dessert and it was spectacular!

Our very capable waiter, Jess, making Cherries Jubilee! Yum! Yum!
Thanks to Doug for taking the pictures at the Cloudcroft High School Awards Ceremony. It was, indeed, a lovely evening all the way around.

This is all I have to say for now.

COPE Christmas Party in Alamogordo, New Mexico

Friday, December 9, 2016

Board members and employees of the Center Of Protective Environment (COPE) gathered for a dinner and Chinese Auction at Carino's Restaurant in Alamogordo, NM. This is one of the few times during the year that everyone gets to meet and converse with all the people in the organization and it is a great way to make new friends.

For those of you unaware, COPE is an organization formed to give assistance to spouses and children suffering abuse. COPE provides Emergency Shelter, Crisis Intervention, Legal and Medical Advocacy, Counseling and Support Groups, Children's Programs, Community Education, Information and Referral, Emergency Clothing and Household Items. They have a 24 Hour Crisis Hotline 575-437-2673 in Alamogordo and 866-350-2673 in Ruidoso.

Executive Director Kay Gomolak gave a brief overview of the year and we ate dinner and visited. Then we began the Chinese Auction game. In this version, an item can be stolen three times. Everyone seemed to have a grand time. I know the conversation at our table was most interesting.

Thanks to Douglas A. Kerr, Photography for taking the great pictures. If he missed someone, we do apologize, but his stander-upper is not well so he just shot from where he sat.

This is all I have to say for now.
